Abe Fritz Vollmer of Calgary, Alberta, passed away Monday, July 17, 2023, at the age of 86 years.
Abe was born in Bad Hersfeld, Germany on March 7, 1937. He immigrated to Canada in 1957 and settled in the Calgary and Okotoks area to pursue his dream of becoming a cowboy.
Abe was a pressure welder by trade, but his true passion was horses. He was most proud of his many awards and trophies he received as an accomplished quarter horse trainer and rider. He was particularly proud of qualifying to ride in the American Quarter Horse Association World Championship, after receiving a certificate of award for AQHA champion in recognition of outstanding conformation and performance.
Abe made many lifelong friendships within the horse community which he cherished and valued. He was very proud and grateful for the many wonderful memories that he loved to share.
Abe is survived by his son Darcy and daughter-in-law Julie, and his three grandchildren, Mitchell, Logan and Savannah, of Calgary, AB. Abe is also survived by his sister Gisela, who resides in Germany. He was predeceased by his father Hans and mother Martha, sister Greta and brother Karl Heinz.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek Hospitality Centre, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Monday, July 24, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
