Obituary of Ji Xia Geng

Ji Xia Geng, beloved husband of Zheng Ying Jiang, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at the age of 88 years.
Ji Xia was born in Luo Yang, Henan province, China on December 13, 1934.
He immigrated to Canada in March 2007.
He moved to Calgary, AB in January 2008.
Ji Xia graduated from Xi’an Medical University with a bachelor’s degree in medicine in 1957.
Immediately after graduating, he joined the Armed forces and was stationed in Lan Zhou Army General Hospital as a military surgeon.
Ji Xia married Zhen Ying in 1968.
He was a committee member of Gan Su Society of Surgery, Gan Su Society of General Surgery, Gan Su Society of Reconstructive Burn Surgery, Gan Su Society of Hand Surgery
He also held voting power for awarding the Senior Professional Title to China Oil and Sinopec medical professionals.
He also received an Honorary title of Professor from the Medical School of Lan Zhou University where he taught.
Ji Xia accomplished much throughout his life and was particularly proud of his successful establishment of thoracic surgery, reconstructive burn surgery, neurological surgery, abdominal surgery, microsurgery, and orthopedics at Sinopec Lan Zhou General Hospital as well as starting the departments for each in the 70’s and 80’s. These achievements in conjunction with other important contributions were a leading factor in upgrading the general hospital into a renowned tertiary hospital for specialized care, from a basic hospital to one of the top facilities in the province. Additionally, Ji Xia also served as a field medic during the Tibetan uprising from 1959 to 1961 and saved the lives of countless soldiers and Tibetans.
Ji Xia enjoyed playing instruments such as the cello, violin, accordion, harmonica, and more. He was especially partial to the Er Hu, often playing it for leisure in his spare time. He started playing in an orchestra in high school and since then music became a part of his daily life. He also liked singing, joining choirs to practice and preform, and was the lead vocal for the Lan Zhou Military Hospital choir.
He will be most remembered for his extraordinary professional skills as a general surgeon. Over his busy 42-year long career, he had saved nearly ten thousand lives. Even after immigrating to Calgary, he provided free medical consultations for the Chinese Canadian community, continuing to help serve others.
Besides his loving wife, Ji Xia is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Litao Geng and Jun Cao and two grandchildren, Josh (Han Cheng) Geng and Alyssa (Han Xiang) Cao, who all live in Calgary, Alberta.
Ji Xia is also survived by his three brothers and three sisters-in-law who live in China; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ji Xia was predeceased by his first daughter Li Yuan Geng, father Wei Fo Geng, Mother Rui Sheng Xu.
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6) on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 9:00 a.m.

耿济侠,姜振英深爱的丈夫,于 2023 年 7 月 18 日星期二与世长辞,享年 88 岁。
济侠于 1934 年 12 月 13 日出生于中国河南洛阳。
2007 年 3 月移民加拿大。
2008 年 1 月移居加拿大卡尔加里。
济侠 1957 年毕业于西安医科大学,获医学学士学位。
毕业后,他立即加入兰州陆军总医院担任军医。
1968 年,济侠与振英结婚。
他曾任

- 甘肃手外科学会委员会委员
他还是中国石油和中国石化医务人员高级专业职称的评委。
他曾受聘为兰州大学医学院荣誉教授。
济侠一生成就斐然,尤其引以为豪的是,他于上世纪七、八十年代在兰州石化总医院成功创建了胸外科、烧伤整形外科、神经外科、腹部外科、显微外科和骨科,开设了各个科室。为总医院成为三级医院做出了举足轻重的重要贡献。他还曾于1959至1961年作为战地军医参与西藏平叛,挽救了诸多军人和藏民的生命。
济侠喜欢演奏大提琴、小提琴、手风琴、口琴等乐器。他尤其偏爱二胡,业余时间经常拉二胡消遣。高中时,他开始在管弦乐队演奏,从此音乐成为他日常生活的一部分。他还喜欢唱歌,经常参加合唱团练习和演出,曾经担任兰州军区总医院合唱团的领唱。
他最令人难忘的是作为一名普外科医生的非凡的专业技能。在长达 42 年的繁忙职业生涯中,他挽救了近万人的生命。是一位极其优秀的大外科主任。来到卡尔加里后也多次为华人义诊, 继续贡献余热。
除了爱妻,济侠的女儿和女婿耿利涛、曹军以及两个外孙,耿翰成)和曹翰香都住在阿尔伯塔省卡尔加里市。
生活在中国的三个兄弟和他们的家人以及诸多朋友也健在。
济侠的长女耿利源、父亲耿慰佛和母亲徐瑞生已经去世。
