Obituary of Wilfred (Wilf) Jacoby
March 26, 1936 – Montreal, Quebec
July 19, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
Wilfred “Wilf” Edmund Jacoby was born and raised in Greenfield Park, Quebec where he ultimately met and married his wife of 60 years, Beverley (nee Harris). They soon started a family and Wilf was a proud father to Allison (Just) and Michael. “Poppa” will be missed by his four grandsons, Josh, Ben, and Fraser Jacoby and Adam Just.
Because of unrest in Quebec, a decision was made to move the family west, first to Kamloops for a short period and ultimately to Calgary for the rest of his long life. Wilf enjoyed many activities including skiing, biking, fishing, and sailing. He was engaged in his children’s activities acting as a flag football coach and later assisting at ski races including the 1988 Winter Olympics. At the same time, he was a voracious intellect, devouring multiple newspapers daily and challenging himself to many new skills, hobbies and of course the daily crossword puzzle. He maintained close ties to his “German Family” including his nephew Carl and his family in Ottawa and his cousins the Brosda’s in Edmonton. Along with their close friends, Bev and Wilf enjoyed many adventures including a six-week tour of Europe by van, cycling and sailing the Gulf Islands, a Caribbean cruise, a European adventure, Hawaii, Belize, Florida and numerous ski trips. After a short illness, just days after celebrating his 60th Wedding Anniversary with Bev he passed peacefully surrounded by family.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. reception to follow. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
