Obituary of Richard (Rick) Forester

November 27, 1951 - July 20, 2023 

Our beloved Rick passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at the age of 71. For the past three years, he courageously lived with cancer, constantly demonstrating strength, resilience and tenacity, while maintaining his sense of humor. Rick was a kind and gentle soul and a caregiver at heart, who deeply loved those close to him.

Rick was born in Calgary where he lived for most of his life. He obtained a B.Sc. in Cellular Biology and completed three years of medical school at the University of Calgary before changing course and ultimately building a successful career in the home furnishings industry. Rick had particularly fond memories of his years working at Campbell’s Furniture, and his own home was always a reflection of his impeccable taste and class. In memory of his father, Rick was a dedicated blood donor, first giving whole blood and then specializing in platelets. Over his lifetime he gave nearly 500 donations to help save others. In retirement, Rick was able to find pleasure in the simple things in life. He found purpose and meaning in caring for Bubba over the years and doing the things they loved - gardening, bird watching, cooking, and creating phenomenal baking that was enjoyed by many. 

Rick will definitely be remembered for his dry sense of humor. With his quick wit, he could always come up with a great line at the best moments (although some jokes may have been recycled once or twice). Rick also enjoyed being physically active: walking, working out, and later joining his brother Gord in the pool for deep-water workouts. The two of them were known to be a bit too rambunctious at times, at least for some of the lifeguards and other patrons. Rick continued to go to the pool regularly up until the final months of his life. 

Rick will be lovingly and proudly remembered by his brother and best friend Gord; nieces Sarah and Emily; nephew Jordan; sisters-in-law Marie and Kathy; sister Judy; cousin Sheila and family; and dear, close friends. He was predeceased by his father Herbert and his mother Rose, whom he will now be reunited with once again.
