Obituary of Loreen Mary Lind

1931 - 2023

Loreen Lind was the beloved wife of the late Dr. John Lind of Calgary. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at 92 years of age. Loreen was the youngest of two daughters born to E.T. and Gladys McMinn.

She was always competitive and grew up playing baseball and swimming in Ontario. As a young woman she decided to move to Calgary to start her career with Hudson's Bay Oil and Gas. Wanting to integrate into Western culture, she quickly learned how to ski. What better place to meet a handsome young dentist than on the slopes?! Fate and necessity brought John and Loreen together. Needing a front tooth repaired, Loreen agreed to a Friday afternoon dental appointment with John that turned into their first dinner date. The two were inseparable thereafter and were soon happily married in Banff. Together, they built a thriving dental practice in downtown Calgary and welcomed two beloved children, their daughter Janet, born in 1956, and their son Rick, born in 1958.

John and Loreen loved being active and escaped to the mountains whenever they could. Loreen was never one for dirt under her fingernails, so they constructed a small but comfortable cabin on Lake Windermere which served as their family home away from home. That was the start of a lifetime of memories in the Windermere Valley.

Waterskiing, downhill skiing at Panorama, tennis, and golf filled their lives with joy. As the years went by and retirement grew closer the warm desert beckoned, and they devoted time each winter to honing their skills at tennis, pickle ball, and golf with close friends in Arizona.

In 2010, the family was devastated by Rick’s passing. Then in 2017, Loreen lost the love of her life when John passed.

In her twilight years Loreen found joy in close personal friendships—especially with Wes—at the Rocky Ridge Retirement Center where her last days were spent. Left to grieve Loreen’s passing are her daughter, Jan (Bob) Veck, grandchildren Cody (Erin) Lind, Kelsea (Logan) Pittman, Alyssa Veck, Megan Veck, and her cherished lifelong friends Bob and Marilynne Clay. Loreen loved life and made many friends along life's path. She is dearly missed by many.

Loreen—May you now dance on streets of gold with your loved ones around you!
