Obituary of Inger Marie Olsen

June 12, 1927 – Rønne, Denmark

July 22, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Inger Olsen (nee Aakjær) passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at the age of 96 years young. Inger was predeceased by her beloved husband Jørgen ‘John’ Olsen.

Inger is survived by her daughter Marianne (Robert), granddaughters Jennifer (Peder) in Denmark, and Heather (Geoff) in Texas. Inger was blessed with seven great-grandchildren; Jakob, Drew, Ellie, Ryan, Celia, Mia and Josie.

She is also remembered by family in Denmark. Inger was born in Bornholm, Denmark and immigrated to Canada in 1949 with Jørgen. She worked at the Calgary Petroleum Club for many years before retiring.

Inger and Jørgen loved hiking and picnics in the mountains, traveling the world together, as well as enjoying a good cup of coffee in their backyard.

Inger was a proud Dane who loved Canada and her family. She was excellent at embroidery and knitting, a fabulous cook and loved entertaining.

A Funeral Service will be held at Sharon Danish Lutheran Church (210 10 Ave NE, Calgary) on Tuesday August 1, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow at the church.
