Obituary of Leita Andria Ritch
July 28, 1932 - Cayman Brac, Cayman Islands
July 23, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
Leita Andria Ritch was born to Leila Agnes Ritch and Captain Orrin Burke Ritch on July 28, 1932 in Cayman Brac, Cayman Islands. She was the second of five children and grew up in the Cayman Islands and Jamaica. Her father was a ship’s captain and so the family moved a few times to other islands where his ship came into harbour. As a young adult, Leita travelled to Guyana, serving with a mission organization. After falling ill, going home, and recovering, Leita relocated to Montréal, Canada. After a few years her youngest brother came to live with her following the death of their mother. Later on, Leita moved from Montréal to Calgary, where she remained for the rest of her life.
During her time in Calgary, Leita joined Victory Life Church, where she remained a faithful member until her passing. She was affectionately called ‘Miss Leita’ by her friends there. Leita worked at various jobs in Calgary, the last of which was at the Cheesecake Café. As well, she volunteered for Servants Anonymous, a Christian organization whose aim is to help women from the sex trade industry. Leita was known in the church and community for her faithfulness and generosity. Her trademark was making cakes for ‘her’ people each year on their birthdays. When asked how she was, Leita would invariably reply, “The Lord is taking good care of me.”
Leita is predeceased by her mother, father, brothers Al and Kerney and sister Naldi. She will be missed by her remaining brother Ken, longtime friends, as well as her church family and friends.
