Peggy Pingot, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023, at the age of 97 years.

 

She was born in Oppeln, Germany on February 24, 1926, attended business college and survived World War II. She immigrated to Canada in 1950 and joined her father in Regina, SK. She lived in Regina, SK, and Toronto, ON, briefly then moved to Sault Ste. Marie, ON, where she met and married Walter Pingot in 1952. She became a Canadian in 1956.

 

Peggy was a devoted mother to two daughters, worked as a typist, a nurse’s aid, a salesclerk and then, in 1984, she moved to Calgary to be a nanny to her granddaughters. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing many outfits and dance costumes for her daughters and granddaughters. She also liked to knit, crochet and garden.

 

Peggy is survived by her two daughters and two sons-in-laws, Annette Pingot (Murray Sykes) of Calgary, AB, Lucia (Scott) Henrich of Carson City, NV; two granddaughters, Evelyn (Nathan) Hart and Kathryn (Geoffrey) Ebel, and one great-grandson Dawson Hart of Calgary, AB. Peggy is also survived by two nieces, Ingrid Jost and Reingard (Hannes) Hänig of Weinböhla, Germany; four grandnieces and nephews, five great-grandnieces and nephews in Germany and Italy, and many extended family in Germany.

 

Peggy was predeceased by her husband Walter Pingot of Sault Ste. Marie, ON, her sisters, Maria Jost of Germany and Magdalene Kessler of Calgary, AB; and her parents Fritz and Cecelia Kessler of Regina, SK.

 

Funeral Services will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church (7 Sunmills Green S.E., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Peggy's service streamed live at https://www.facebook.com/stpaulscalgary on the day of the service.
