Obituary of Danny Laurence Scott
July 16, 1957 – Nelson, British Columbia
July 29, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
Danny “Dan” Scott passed away unexpectedly at Mayfair Care Centre in Calgary on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at the age of 66 years. He was predeceased by his mother, Helen Bernice Scott (nee Gerdis), his father Gordon Irwin Edgar Scott and his eldest brother, Barry Gordon Scott. He is survived by his brothers, Tom Scott (Gail) of Cranbrook, BC and Ron Scott (Marilynn) of Summerland, BC, and sister-in-law Doreen Scott of Calgary and several nieces and nephews.
Dan grew up in Blueberry Creek, BC located in the heart of the West Kootenays. His older brothers, Barry and Ron, had moved on in their lives which made Dan and younger brother, Tom, great pals. They had many adventures in nature as they enjoyed hiking, fishing, swimming and skating.
Dan had a love of music and the talent to play the accordion, piano, trumpet, and he especially loved playing the drums.
Dan attended school in Blueberry Creek and Castlegar, BC where he was an enthusiastic student with excellent marks.
After moving to Calgary, Dan delivered the “Nickle Daily Oil Bulletin” to oil companies in the downtown core. After that he worked at the Calgary International Airport as a custodian for several years.
Many thanks to Mayfair Care Centre staff for their kind, attentive and respectful care. He would always do his “exercises” on the stationary bike and would partake in Bingo which he seemed to have good luck at, according to the big candy stash in his room. His favorite day trips were going on the boat ride and going to see and pet the horses. When younger, Dan also loved to play Cribbage with his mother. Fortunately, he found several friends at Mayfair who regularly played Cribbage together. He made many friends while at Mayfair and had a great roommate, Alec. Dan and Alec would take turns buying each other pop and would save their soup crackers so they could go out and feed the birds during the day.
Dan didn’t always have an easy life, but he always remained a kind and gentle soul who strived to make the most of every day and he will be missed.
Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Dan’s family here.
