Obituary of James Alfred Giesler
James Alfred Giesler of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, July 29th, 2023 from cancer at the age of 54 years surrounded by friends and family.
James was born on February 23, 1969 in Edmonton, Alberta. After graduating high school from Sir Winston Churchill, he attended SAIT for automotives and welding. James loved horses, dogs, the mountains, playing crib, darts, reading Louis L’amour novels, rooting for his Chicago Bears and eating Gator’s cinnamon buns. Most recently, he enjoyed working at Lowe’s and spending time with his friends at Glenn’s. He will be remembered for his kindness to others and always having a ‘bad dad joke’ to share.
James will be sadly missed by his sister and brother-in-law, Laura and David van Bakel of Calgary; his two nieces, Madison and Kaitlyn van Bakel; and his three great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, Victor and Theresa Butlin of Calgary and Wilfred and Jean Butlin of Edmonton; as well as numerous extended family and dear friends, especially Kevin and Gator. James was predeceased by his parents, May Johnson and Alfred Giesler.
At James’ request, no services will be held. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.
