Verna Hoefling

Obituary of Verna Eileen Hoefling

March 21, 1931 – August 19, 2023

Verna Hoefling (nee Rausch), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday August 19, 2023 at the age of 92 years.

Verna married Vernon Hoefling on December 3, 1950. Verna accomplished much through her life and was particularly proud of her family. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and close friends, often hosting up to 30 guests for a weekend meal.  Music and dancing were also Verna’s passion.  She often hosted house parties with friends bringing their musical instruments and playing while we danced the night away.  In her later years, she would attend various old-time dances and travel to different rural Alberta towns to enjoy a violin concert or musical talent show. Verna also enjoyed playing cards, bingo and bowling. While her bowling days were more limited, she continued to play bingo and numerous card games.

Verna loved to travel. She travelled across Canada and most of the USA. She visited England, Scotland, and cruised a number of the Caribbean islands. Perhaps one of her most loved locations was Hawaii, as she visited Hawaii on various occasions, but the first and most memorable was with her husband Vernon.

Verna is survived by three sons, and one daughter, Ralph (Brenda), Earl (Sandra), Barry (Susan), and Joy (Don) Carlson all residing in Calgary, AB; and grandchildren, Kim Holloway, Lori Drake, Robb, Jarrett, Scott, Stephen, Matthew, and Daniel Hoefling, and Nikolas & Stefanie Carlson. Verna is also survived by numerous great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Verna was predeceased by her spouse Vernon; daughter Darlene Kroeker; parents, Johannes and Maria Rausch; brothers, John and Albert; and sisters Poly(Bill) Ager, Lily(Percy) Hanslip, Mary and Ester Rausch, as well as a great-grandson Ryan Hoefling.
