Scott Mohagen, beloved husband of Lea Bill and loving father of Emeril Bill Mohagen of Millarville, AB, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at the age of 66 years.
Scott was born in Calgary, AB on July 10, 1957. He lived in Calgary up until he moved to Millarville, AB in the fall of 1998 with his wife Lea Bill
Scott attended Lord Beaverbrook High School and attended the Southern Institute of Technology, graduated with a Diploma in Petroleum Technology in 1980, attended the University of Tulsa and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1984. His career as a Petroleum Engineer included working for several companies over the course of his career, in the capacity of Completions consultant, Senior Completions & Well Intervention, and Completions superintendent. He was a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists & Geophysicists of Alberta.
Scott loved life and is best remembered for his distinct laugh and jovial nature. He loved poker and was particularly proud of successfully qualifying to attend the World Poker Series in Las Vegas. Scott had a passion for sports and travel. He particularly loved hockey and played in the Triple A league in his younger years. He was an avid golfer and often won tournaments. Football, cycling, and hiking were included in his repertoire of sports interests. He successfully hiked the West Coast Trail with Lea in 1999. Some of his most memorable vacations were to Greece, Costa Rica, Cuba, India, Hawaii, and Mexico.
Scott loved to sing, and it was not uncommon to hear him belting out a country song or singing along with the radio. He will be most remembered for his positive nature and particularly the hope and inspiration he instilled in the many people that crossed his path, particularly cancer patients.
Scott is survived by his wife Lea Bill, Emeril, son Bill Mohagen, stepson Laren Bill (Reegan), stepdaughter Sereine Bill (Joshua), grandson Alex Bill, granddaughter Freya Bill Ellingson, sisters, Cheryl and Brenda Mohagen, and stepsister Cheryl Hendriksen, cousin Wayne Denison, and extended family and friends. Scott was predeceased by his father, mother, uncles, aunts, cousins, maternal grandparents, Edwin Selland and Edith Denison Selland, and paternal grandparents, Oliver Arnold Mohagen and Ragnhild Thordis Mohagen.
Wake service Friday, August 4, 2023, to begin at 4:00 p.m. and a Celebration of Scott’s Life will be held at Lea & Scott’s Residence on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Scott’s family here.
