Obituary of Frank Paul Letwin
February 26, 1942 – Thalberg, Manitoba
August 1, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
Frank Paul Letwin passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the Southwood Hospice, in Calgary, Alberta.
He will be dearly missed by his children, Vince (Lisa), Mona (Daniel), Carl (Nadene), and Cora (Joseph); grandchildren, Michael, Katherine Fiona, Kathleen, Clara, Eileen, Brendan, and Stefan. Frank is also survived by his brother Peter (Margaret) Letwin of Barrie, ON, brother-in-law, Dan Kitzan of Winnipeg, MB, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Frank was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth Letwin (nee O’Donovan), his parents Peter and Helen Letwin, and sister Jeanette Ilchena (Andrew).
Frank was born and grew up in Thalberg, Manitoba. He graduated from Red River College with a diploma in Heavy Duty Machinery Operations. He married his wife Elizabeth Letwin (nee O’Donovan) on July 23, 1966, and shared 48 years together.
He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and within the Ukrainian Catholic Church community. He accomplished much throughout his life and was particularly proud of his family and Ukrainian Heritage.
Frank enjoyed taking his family on road trips every August, camping along the way, visiting with family in Manitoba and taking adventures into the States.
French fries and hamburgers were his secret indulgence. Working as a heavy-duty mechanic fostered a lifelong interest in automobiles. Each summer and fall were warmly welcomed by the opportunity to watch the CFL, NFL and college football.
He was very friendly and always available for a good conversation, even with strangers. He will be most remembered for his kind heart, generosity, big smile and friendly nature.
The family would like to thank the healthcare workers at Southwood Hospice and his palliative home care nurse, Helen, for the support and comfort they provided to Frank on his journey.

Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Stephen Protomartyr Ukrainian Catholic Church (4903 – 45th Street S.W., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Frank’s family here.
