It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Marc Joustra, a devoted and loving father, son, brother, uncle, and friend of Calgary, Alberta. On July 31st, at the age of 52 years, Marc peacefully bid farewell to this world.

Marc leaves behind cherished memories in the hearts of his two beloved sons, Kai and Jake Joustra, and their mother, Jana Joustra. He will also be fondly remembered by his mother, Eleonore Bos van den Hemel (Jan), his sister Monique Joustra, Monique’s husband, Richard Brady and Marc's girlfriend, Karen Anderson. Sudden loss is also felt by families Bos, Geier and Turchinhodzic, countless friends and coworkers. He was predeceased by his father, Hans Joustra.

Born in Calgary, AB on June 13, 1971, Marc's childhood was spent on an acreage near Cochrane, AB, where he developed an appreciation for the outdoors. He attended school in his hometown before pursuing further education at Mount Royal College and the University of Calgary. Marc's professional journey led him to a successful career in Supply Chain Management, where he worked in various industries, including telecommunications, oil and gas, and, finally, Alberta Health Services.

Marc's gentle and thoughtful nature will live on through his sons. If you met Marc, you couldn’t help but like him.  His kind smile made him approachable and easy to confide in. Family held great significance in Marc's life, and he cherished spending time with his sons, prioritizing their happiness above all else. His selflessness extended to others, as he readily offered a helping hand to anyone in need. 

Marc's love for nature and adventure knew no bounds. He found joy in exploring new places, hiking, biking, camping, and snowboarding with his friends and loved ones. The mountains, in particular, held a special place in his heart, providing a happy-place, where he could unwind and find inner peace.

A Celebration of Marc’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. This gathering will provide an opportunity for family, friends, and colleagues to come together to honor and remember the wonderful person Marc was.

Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Joustra’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Marc’s family here.
