Obituary of Marjorie Bernice Stoley

March 1, 1931 - Herbert, Saskatchewan

August 2, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Marjorie Bernice Stoley on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at the age of 92 years. Marjorie had a long battle with COPD and Peripheral Neuropathy which progressively restricted her mobility.

Marj was born to Margaret and Robert MacLeod on March 1, 1931, in Herbert, SK. She grew up on the farm during the Depression and made lifelong friends with neighbours and schoolmates. She is predeceased by her husband Rondle Stoley, parents, and four older brothers, Donald, Allister, James, and Lloyd.

After high school Marj went to Moose Jaw to become a registered nurse. While working in Bienfait, SK she met her husband Ron on a blind date, and they were married June 26, 1954.

In the early part of their marriage, they travelled around Western Canada and Australia. During this time, they welcomed three children, James, Ronald, and Brenda, and in 1966 made Calgary their home base. It was here that Marj began raising the kids and nursing part-time at the Bethany Long-Term Care Centre while Ron continued to travel while working in the oil patch. She also became a dedicated member of the Eastern Star. Over the years she served on the executive including Worthy Matron for her Chapter and Worthy Grand Matron for Alberta. Some of her favourite times were making mountains of angel food cakes for the Chinook Charity Bizarre fundraiser in the spring.

Marj leaves behind her three children and grandchildren Kyle (Mariah), Andrea (Matt), Heather (James) and Nichole and great-grandchildren Harper and Wilder.

Thank you to Alberta Health Services and all the long-term care staff who helped Mom through the final years of her life.
