Obituary of Laurette Marie Young

 

March 16, 1935 - Kelvington, Saskatchewan

August 4, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

 

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Laurette Young on Friday, August 4, 2023 in Calgary at the age of 88 years.

 

Laurette was born to Egnace and Aniela Cayen in Kelvington, SK on March 16, 1935. She was raised on the farm with her two brothers and two sisters before she moved to Saskatoon to attend grades 9 through 12.

 

While attending nursing school in Saskatoon, she met Ronald Young, who she married in 1956. Once Ronald graduated from medical school, they moved to Swift Current where they raised their four children. Laurette then moved to Calgary in 2003 to be close to her children.

 

Laurette loved life and enjoyed snow skiing with her family and friends, especially down in Whitefish, Montana, where they had a ski chalet on the mountain.  While living in Swift Current, she also loved spending the summers at the family cabin at Lac Pelletier. Laurette also enjoyed baking and attending church on a regular basis.

 

Laurette is survived by her sister Jeanette and brother Delore, her four children, Elizabeth, Ronald, Jeanette, and Robert, her three grandchildren, Jessica, Nicole, and Mackenzie, and her great-granddaughter Brooklyn.

 

Laurette was predeceased by her parents, her brother Leo, her sister Louise, her son Michael, and her granddaughter Kelly.

 

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at St. Bernard's Catholic Church (711 37 St NW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Funeral Mass to follow at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Laurette’s family here.
