Obituary of Ruth Doreen Shelwick
January 3, 1935 - Regina, Saskatchewan
August 6, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
Ruth Doreen Shelwick passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at the age of 88 years. Her husband John will miss her terribly.
Ruth was born in Regina, SK on January 3, 1935. She spent most of her childhood on the farm. When her father retired from farming, the family moved to Regina.
When Ruth completed her education in Regina, she and her friend decided to move to Calgary. After several jobs, she was hired by Keith Stationary. After a few years, she became one of the company’s chief accountants. When Keith Stationary was taken over by Grand & Toy, Ruth retired.
Ruth loved being a “housewife”. She was a great cook and execellent at other housekeeping chores. Ruth was very active. She became a Certified Curling Instructor and taught many children how to curl. John and Ruth took many trips together and with friends, and they did a lot of “RVing” with friends. These were very enjoyable times, and they had a lot of fun.
Ruth was predeceased by her father Karl Huber (1980), her mother Emma (2002), her oldest brother Harold Huber (1979), and her brother Clair Huber (1972).
If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to a cancer charity of your choice.
John, Ruth’s husband, would like to thank the Foothills Medical Centre, especially the nursing station on Unit 57 for the great care the nurses gave Ruth, and Agape Hospice for the care and comfort they provided to her.
Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Ruth’s family here.
