Obituary of David Franklin Hendrickson

In Loving Memory of David Franklin Hendrickson (July 23, 1948 - August 5, 2023)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David F. Hendrickson, a beloved brother, father, grandfather, and friend. David departed this world on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the age of 75 years, leaving behind fond memories of love, laughter, and learning.

David was born on July 23, 1948, in Regina, Saskatchewan, to Grace and William Hendrickson and was raised in Edmonton, Alberta with his brother Leonard and his sister Ellen Mae. From a young age, David had a love for history, books, and learning. David graduated from the University of Alberta with an Education Degree, which marked the start of his 40-year teaching career.

David has always enjoyed the outdoors and travelling, including time in southeast Asia, India and Australia. David married Jeanette Sheremata in 1977, and they settled in St. Albert, AB. They welcomed their children, Scott William in 1980, and Lisa Grace Jean in 1983. David and Jeanette amicably parted ways but remained friends, active co-parents and grandparents.

David enjoyed the outdoors and was happiest spending time with his family and friends camping, at the log cabin in Ross Haven, or in more recent years, at the trailer at Sundre. David was committed to lifelong learning and could be found reading books, observing local and world politics and was always up for a spirited discussion on any topic.

David is survived by his daughter Lisa (partner Scott and former husband Kyle), son Scott and daughter-in-law Dawn, four grandchildren, Josie and Walter Konopski, Everett and Oliver Hendrickson. David moved to Calgary in 2014 to be closer to his children and grandchildren and treasured every moment he got to spend with them. He enjoyed volunteering his time at the Calgary Food Bank.

David is also survived by his sister Ellen Mae, brother-in-law Roy, brother, Leonard, sister-in-law Marilyn, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

David was predeceased by parents William and Grace, and his partner Shirley O’Toole.
