Condolences
So sorry to learn of Bill's passing. Sincerest condolences to his family.
I first met Bill, the consummate salesman, back in 1978. If there was ever a man with a passion for challenges, Bill was your go to guy! What with that quick shake of his shoulders, squint of the eyes and that mischievous grin, you knew that he was already conjuring up some plan of attack, most often from way out in left field!
Bill knew that I really enjoyed the outdoors and hiking with all my gear on my back. Of course Bill had a better way. Have Gail pack us a box lunch, throw it in the back of his super modified 4X4 and grind his way over grassy foothills, rocky ridges and streams. We found ourselves in no time several ridges in off the Cowboy trail south of Chain Lakes . . . "oh I know this country like the back of man hand, come hunting here all the time, don't worry, we will be home by supper time!"
Well needless to say the trip in was way too easy for Bill . . . he knew a short cut out and so it began, dropped the front end into a stream that was way too deep, with the back wheels high, me standing on the back bumper to get it down for some traction, then somehow across . . . right into a bog, with again the front end buried up to the headlights, no shovel of course " oh I can just gun her out" no way, so I managed to trench down with a stump to find the winch . . . it was getting dark . . . and I couldn't find a tree strong enough in the Bog so wrapped the cable around a clump and a rock . . . and it seemed to be holding . . . until the cable snapped . . . and the aga continued, all the time Bill claiming or we can just do this or that . . . @ 2AM we were hosing off mud and shrubbery from ourselves and the truck at the car wash in Claresholme . . . no cell phones back in those days so our wives must have thought we done in by the bears! The box lunch was a treat though!
But that was Bill, "told you I could get you home, bet you never did that before!" He did the same with his Company affairs, if the other guys were selling it that way, he had a better way and sold you on it this way . . . and his way always worked! What a Guy!
It was a gift to have known Bill and we had many more adventures, both personally and business wise, over the years. What a guy! He will be sadly missed but NEVER forgotten!

My condolences to the the family and friends of Bill. It has been many years since I have seen Bill and Gail even though I was just a little kid when my dad married Bill and Larry's mom Betty. I will always remember that they were a beautiful couple and super nice to me.
Larry and family. I'm so sorry to read about the passing of your brother Bill. May you hold many happy memories of him.
The Makins family sends our heart felt condolences to Gail and the girls over the passing of Bill Stefnik. He was a great friend, great thinker and an inventive man for many things mechanical. I also send condolences to his brother Larry whom I had the pleasure of racing against after Bill and family had moved west. I can also remember some of Bill’s extended family from many years back. Best wishes and prosperity is also extended to Bill’s loved ones left behind. God speed Bill!
Bill was a great, big brother to me. Both of our parents worked and Bill watched over me.
He built my first street car, a 55 Chev Belair, and together we built my first race car.
I can just picture "Wicked William" (his racing nickname) building the fastest race car at his new destination.
He will be deeply missed and always in my heart!
Larry Stefnik
