Obituary of Edward Bob Benny
March 5, 1936 - Calgary, Alberta
August 14, 2023 - High River, Alberta
Edward Bob Benny was finally reunited with the love of his life on Monday, August 14, 2023. His beloved wife of 55 years, Judith Anne (Beggs) Benny, passed away on March 14, 2020, and Ed spent the last three years missing her dearly.
Ed was born on March 5, 1936, and he was raised in Calgary. Ed worked most of his life as an employee for the City of Calgary. Upon retirement, Ed and Judy decided to try small-town living. They first moved to Canmore and then happily settled in High River with a view of their golf course out their back window.
Ed and Judy loved to travel. They were snowbirds and preferred warmer climates. They saw much of the world, but they returned often to Maui and Palm Desert.
Ed was always intellectually ahead of his time, and a foreword thinker. He loved to discuss varying political and global views. He was witty and quick to joke. Invariably, most of Ed’s off-the-wall comments were followed with a groan and Judy saying, “Oh Ed! Really!”
Ed loved sports. In his early years, he played hockey and rugby. In the later years, it was golf. When his knees wouldn’t let him golf anymore, he would fill in as course marshal and collect the wayward golf balls he found along his way.
Ed lived a long, happy life and died peacefully in the High River Hospital. He will be lovingly missed by his extended family. At Ed’s request, there will not be a funeral. Ed and Judy will be placed to rest together at the Queens Park Cemetery in Calgary. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Ed’s family here.
In living memory of Edward Benny, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, Ab t2x 3j3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
