Obituary of Shona Margaret Forbes
May 7, 1949 - August 20, 2023
Shona was born in RAF, Changi, Singapore to William Thomson (born in Carluke, Scotland) and Margaret Helena Russell (nee Murphy) (born in Graaf-Reinet, South Africa).
She passed away at age 74 from a heart attack in Charlottetown, PEI, while visiting her great-grandkids. Shona was raised on RAF Bases in Singapore, England, and Scotland. She moved to South Africa at seventeen in 1966; when her father left the Airforce; with her father, mother, and sister Sharron. Shona married Harold Wilson (deceased) and they moved to PEI in 1987 with sons Craig and Adam and adopted twins Helene and David. Shona worked with the contractor on The Confederation Bridge where she met Gordon Forbes from the design group. After The Bridge construction and opening in May 1997, she worked with the group operating The Bridge and was then offered a job in Calgary with The Bridge contactor in 1998. She moved to Calgary with the twins, met up with Gord again and they eventually married in 2011. She also worked at the YWCA, the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter, Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School, and Silvera Housing for Seniors.
Shona is predeceased by her parents (SA), son Craig (PEI), and recently, older brother William (Russ) (Lake District, UK). She is survived by husband Gord (Calgary), his son Michael and wife Katheryn Buble (Pullman, WA); her son Adam, engaged to Shuo-Nan (China), and his son Dominick Stewart and mum Donna (PEI); her twins, David and Helene, and partner Patrick (Calgary); and by her son Craig’s daughter, Tori Wood-Wilson (PEI), mum Natalie, and Tori’s partner Keith MacKenzie, with son Remi. Shona’s great-granddaughters, Jacey Wood, Kenzley Hawkins, Laileigh Wilson, and miracle baby Wrenley MacKenzie will miss her. Brother Russ’s daughter Paula Smith (UK), her daughter Brogan Kerr, Paula’s husband Tim (deceased) and kids Cameron and Toby; Russ’s son Mark (UK); sister Sharron and husband Clive Meerholz (Wilmington, NC), their son Tim (Tucson, AZ) and their son Nick and his daughter Evalyn (Evy), and his wife Meceala (Napa, CA). She will be sorrily missed by Gordon’s brother Jim and Connie (Calgary); Gord’s nephews James (Lethbridge, AB), and Christopher and his wife Colleen (Calgary), and great-nephew and niece Andrew and Zoe.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church (2424 – 24th Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB) on Friday, September 8, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queens Park Cemetery. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
