Obituary of Jorge Mendez Manzanilla

March 5, 1972 - Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico

September 18, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Jorge Mendez Manzanilla, beloved husband of Gina Jimenez, and loving father of Jorge and Ivana, peacefully passed away in Calgary, AB, on Monday, September 18, 2023.

Jorge was born in Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico on March 5, 1972. In 2000, he moved away from Mexico with wife and child in tow to study his master’s degree in Agricultural Economics at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Then in 2003, he moved to Calgary with his wife and two young children, where they made their family home.

Jorge married Gina in 1997 and they were together for 26 wonderful years.

Jorge had an energetic soul that loved the outdoors and would never pass up the opportunity to go hiking, kayaking, cycling, fishing, or camping. His most recent passion in life was beekeeping, and always found his peace while tending to the hive, harvesting honey, or simply watching the bees buzzing around the yard.

Jorge’s most memorable vacation was last December in Barra de Potosi, Mexico. Where he went deep sea fishing and finally caught the huge Dorado fish, he had been chasing his entire life. We will never forget the look of joy he had on his face in that moment.

Jorge is survived by his wife Gina, his son Jorge Arturo and daughter Ivana; and his two sisters Carmen and Silvia.

For all those interested, Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church (541 Silvergrove Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Saturday September 23, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.

In living memory of Jorge, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB T3G 2T3, Telephone: 403-241-0044.
