Obituary of John Victor Watt

John Victor Watt has sadly passed away at the age of 92 in Calgary, AB, on August 22, 2023. John was born in Sintaluta, SK, on December 7, 1930. He grew up in Saskatchewan, spending his high school years attending Luther College in Regina. He married Donna on November 19, 1955, and just days after the wedding headed to Whitehorse, YK with his new bride. They planned on staying for a few years and stayed for fifty. John was elected to Territorial Council in 1961 and 1964; while on the Territorial Council he represented Whitehorse West. In the early 1970’s he served as an Alderman on the Whitehorse City Council.

 

Throughout the years John’s love of sports could be seen in his participation in hockey and tennis; once the children came along, he encouraged them in their sports. The kids’ participation included cross country skiing, hockey, and table tennis. After many years of spending winters in Arizona and summers at Marsh Lake; John and Donna moved to Calgary in 2005 to be closer to family. While in Calgary he enjoyed playing tennis with his granddaughters and riding his bike along the Bow River.

 

John is survived by his wife of 67 years Donna (nee Reid) and his children; Jean (Brad) Goldie, Ruth Bennett, and John (Sherrie) Watt. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Brita (Shane) Goldie, Eric (Pamela) Goldie, Alanna (Brandon) Goldie, Jenna Bennett, Stanley Bennett and Brendan Watt and his great-granddaughter Elizabeth Goldie.

 

John is predeceased by his parents, James and Edith Watt, his brother Ted Watt and sister Gayle Biden.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
