Obituary of Edward Larsen Duhn

August 17, 1934 – Sceptre, Saskatchewan

Edward Duhn, fondly known as Ed, beloved husband of Rita Duhn passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, August 23, 2023, at the age of 89 years.

Ed was born to Michael and Annie Duhn in Sceptre, Saskatchewan, Canada on August 17,1934. He moved to Standard, AB, Canada with his family when he was a child, approximately eight years old. He married Rita the love of his life in 1997 in Calgary.

Ed was a farmer at heart and grew up combining farmland since he was a little boy on his family farm.  Ed worked at Brewers Distributors Ltd. in Calgary, AB for 28 years as a heavy-duty mechanic. He was a very social man and loved to interact with others and reminisce of the good old days.  Ed enjoyed retirement helping his brother Robert and nephews out on their farm in Delacore, AB, his passion of farming was embedded in his heart since he was a boy. It only made sense for him to go back doing what he loved in his later years, sitting on a combine. He cherished his home-grown garden that he put in every year. Some of his favorite memories were of the grandchildren coming over to help with pulling the crop at the end of the season and seeing the joy on the children faces when they found all the potatoes under the well-maintained soil.  When Ed was not farming you found him in his favourite place, his garage. Where he was found tinkering away on making new gadgets to help with chores around the house, fixing anything and everything to get it back to working state, or doing carpentry. He made toys and puzzles for his six grandchildren, who he loved dearly, and picture frames to proudly display pictures of them on the walls in his garage.  In his final years, he found such joy visiting with his family, especially his son Blaine, bonding over playing cards and crib.  Ed’s joy in life came from family, he held them close to his heart.

Ed is survived by his loving wife Rita Duhn of 26 years, his son Blaine Duhn in Chestermere, AB, four daughters and four sons-in-law, Sherry Smith (Wes) in Calgary, AB, Tammy Zaretski (Don) in Vernon, BC, Shannon Kozlik (Robert) in Calgary AB, and Jo Ann Gentleman (George) in Calgary AB; and six grandchildren, Ryder Smith, Shaylyn Smith, Tyler Byron, Jenna Kozlik, Sydney Kozlik and Katia Zaretski. Ed is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ed was predeceased by parents, Michael and Annie Duhn; brothers, Robert Duhn (Jean) and Earl Duhn (Marilyn), and granddaughter Emma Smith.
