Obituary of Dorothy Margaret Ford

October 15, 1943 – New Glasgow, Nova Scotia

August 26, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

Dorothy Ford, beloved wife of the late John (Jack) Alfred Patton Ford, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the age of 79 years.

Dorothy was born in New Glasgow, NS on October 15, 1943. She graduated from the Aberdeen Hospital School of Nursing in New Glasgow with a Nursing diploma. After graduation Dot moved to Nanaimo, BC where she met Jack, they were married in 1967. Dot and Jack moved often during their first two decades together as Jack pursued a military career and Dot worked as a nurse and raised their family.

She was an active member of the church and volunteered with the Girl Guides of Canada and the various churches she belonged to throughout her life. Dot loved to cook and sew and was never seen without a knitting or crochet project in her hands when relaxing in the evening. She will be most remembered for her love of family and cooking enough food for an army so there was always plenty for last-minute guests.

Dot is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Tim Hendry of Calgary, AB; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Todd Ford and Jacqueline Desjardins of Lake Country, BC and Paul Ford of Calgary, AB; five grandchildren, Cody, Stewart, and Jacob Hendry of Calgary, AB, and Isabella and Charlotte Ford of Lake Country, BC.

Dorothy is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Joan Buck of Halifax, NS; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Mike MacDonald of Churchville, NS; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Marion and Grant Buck; and her loving husband Jack.
