Obituary of Eileen Judith Fournier
FOURNIER, Eileen Judith (nee Larson)
October 7, 1944 – August 25, 2023
Devoted servant of Jehovah, cherished wife, loving mother, and doting grandmother, Eileen Fournier passed away early Friday morning, August 25th, at the Calgary Foothills Hospital. She drew strength and hope from the Bible’s promise found in Luke 20:38, ”For He is a God not of the dead, but of the living, for they are all living to him.”
Eileen was born to Swedish immigrants, Algot and Ragnhild Larson, on their farm in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. She was the youngest of six siblings. She leaves behind her husband Emile; children René, Sean, and Andrea; grandchildren Raif, Madoc, Rosie, Amelia, and Penelope; and sisters Shirley and Lorraine. She is predeceased by brothers Gordon, Roy, and Helmer.
On December 20th, 1958, after making her dedication, Eileen got baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. After graduating from Wetaskiwin High School as the valedictorian (yes, she was a diligent student, both academically and of God’s Word) she moved to Calgary to serve as a full-time volunteer Bible teacher.
In 1967, Eileen moved to Quebec to continue her ministry, teaching the Bible in both French and English. It was there that she met Emile Fournier, whom she would marry. Together, they settled first in Winnipeg and later in Calgary to raise their family.
Eileen was known for her hospitality and kind nature. Becoming a grandmother brought her great joy. She cherished each of her five grandchildren for their unique gifts and personalities.
Eileen’s faith in God and His promises was her most outstanding quality. Throughout her life, she helped many people learn what the Bible teaches. Eileen’s hope is expressed in Job 14:14,15: ”If a man dies, can he live again?... You will call, and I will answer.” Her family and friends look forward to welcoming Eileen back in the new world when her heavenly Father and Friend calls her back to life.
