Obituary of Myrel Glen Clark

August 1, 1927 - Vulcan, Alberta

August 30, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

With heavy hearts, our family would like to announce the passing of Myrel Glen Clark, at the age of 96 years.

Myrel was married for almost 72 years to the love of his life, Barbara Helen Clark, who passed away July 28, 2023, and was a wonderful dad to Sue (Will) and Ron (Jessica), and loving grampa to Jennifer and Brittany.

Myrel was born in Vulcan, Alberta, August 1, 1927.  His early days were on the family farm with his two older sisters and older brother.  At age 17, on January 1, 1945, he joined the PPCLI (Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry).  He was in a special training unit for paratroopers during part of his military service, and also in Germany with a peacekeepers unit.  In 1951, he married Barbara, and then went overseas for his last year of military service.  He loved being part of the military, but retired in 1953 to live in Calgary with Barbara and start a family.  He trained as a draftsman and worked for Shell Canada for many years.  His dream was to own a sporting goods store, which he did for a few years.  He also worked for a time at the Energy Resources Conservation Board, and retired in his mid fifties.

Myrel was an avid fisherman, hunter and camper.  He loved the outdoors.  He and his son Ron spent many weekends in the Kananaskis in Ron’s early years, and when Ron moved to the west coast, he would travel there to go salmon fishing.  He and Barbara also loved to travel, enjoying a number of tours and cruises with friends, and in later years spending two months each year in Victoria, visiting with friends and family and enjoying walking each day to Murchie’s, and around the sea wall to Beacon Park.

Myrel’s family is sad but grateful that he is once again with his wife, Barbara.  We will all miss him every day.  We love you dad/grampa.

As per Myrel’s wishes a private family service will be held.  Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
