Obituary of Daniel James Hockley

July 29, 1964 - Winnipeg, Manitoba

Daniel "Boone" James Hockley of Calgary, AB passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023 at the age of 59, at Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary, of cancer, just days before his planned return to Ontario to be with his family. His family would like to thank the doctors and staff who cared for him in his final days.

Daniel "Boone" was born in Winnipeg, MB on July 29, 1964, but spent his formative and young adult years in the Brantford, ON area. As an adult, Daniel "Boone" lived each day in the moment, travelling around Canada, selling family portraits. In his final 17 years, he loved living in Calgary. He especially enjoyed the Calgary Flames, watching their games, whenever possible, and attending the Calgary Stampede each year.

Anyone who knew Daniel "Boone" will most remember him for his sense of humour and his contagious laughter. He lived a carefree life, needing very little to bring him happiness. Daniel "Boone" was a very generous person, who was always willing to go without so that someone else could benefit. Daniel "Boone" is survived by his two sons and daughter, Daniel "Jamie" Hockley, Joshua Hockley, and Haley McCarthy, and his four grandchildren. Daniel "Boone" is also survived by his brothers, David and John Hockley, his cousin Steven Dearsley, and many nieces and nephews who meant so much to him, and who will always remember their "Uncle Boone".

No matter where Daniel "Boone" was, he made many friends who would feel his loss most in the absence of his joy and laughter.

Daniel "Boone" was predeceased by both of his parents, Walter and Margaret Hockley, his brother George Hockley, and his sisters, Tracy Hockley-Tough and Terry Flack.
