Obituary of Bing Sheung Chan 陳炳常

It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Bing Sheung Chan in Calgary, Alberta on September 6, 2023. He was 82 years old. Bing was born in Kaiping, China on May 5, 1941. He is survived by his beloved wife Stella (Hon Kan Chow) and his son Kenneth, 陈惠清 Younger sister and first cousin Bing Sung Chan.

Bing was always a gentleman and embodied the principles of Confucianism – benevolence faithfulness, honesty, respect, loyalty, and righteousness. He loved his wife and family, both in Canada and China and was a good friend to many. He was always willing to help others and provide support when needed, from mowing a lawn for a friend to his ongoing involvement in numerous community activities.

In Toronto, he was one of the key people who introduced the option to study Chinese language education into the public school system there. He, along with his lovely wife Stella, gave financial support to his mother, siblings, and in-laws, helping them build houses and improving their education.
