Obituary of Souraya Alain

April 20, 1952 - Katana, Syria

Souraya Alain, beloved wife of Elias Alain of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at the age of 71 years.

Souraya was born in Katana, Syria on April 20, 1952. She married Elias Alain on July 20, 1967; together they lived in Beirut, Lebanon and immigrated to Calgary, AB, in 1975.

She was a devoted member of Our Lady of Peace Maronite Catholic Church and a beloved member of the Akhawieh ladies church group.

Souraya accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of her beautiful flower garden. Her grandchildren were her life’s most precious achievements and she adored and loved them more than anything. She was very devoted to her immediate family, and relatives in Canada and Syria.  

She will be most remembered for her kindheartedness and her generosity to anyone who was lucky to know her. She had a love of family get-togethers and functions. She always made sure everyone was dancing and enjoying themselves.

Besides her loving husband Elias Alain, Souraya is survived by her two daughters, Christine Alain and Liliane Alain of Calgary, AB; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Zaki (Nancy) Alain and Fadi (Heather) Alain of Calgary, AB; ten grandchildren, Mario, Marissa, Matthew, Alicia, Justin, Maria, Zachary, Jessica, Chantal, and Anthony. Souraya is also survived by her sisters, Salwa and Dibeh; brother Najeeb, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Souraya was predeceased by sisters, Salma and Shahina; and brothers, Tanos and Elias.  

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Peace Maronite Catholic Church (504 – 30th Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Mausoleum. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall at the church. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Souraya’s family here.
