Wendy Cundall

Obituary of Wendy Elizabeth Cundall

July 26, 1952 - Toronto, Ontario

September 11, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Last weekend, we lost a mother, a sister, and to so many, a dear, cherished friend with the passing of Wendy Elizabeth Cundall.

Wendy was born in Toronto, ON and lived in Windsor, ON, Yakima, WA, Kingston, ON, Vancouver, BC, Lethbridge, AB, and, for the past 32 years, in Calgary, AB.

Predeceased by her husband, and still the love of her life, John Cundall, father Bert Grant, mother Daphne Grant, and sister Shannon Grant. Survived by daughter Amanda Cundall, brother David Grant, sister Melanie Bond, and brother Peter Grant.

Wendy earned an Honours degree in Chemistry from Queens University; she was brilliant.

Wendy collected wines and friends who loved wine. She ran marathons. She volunteered with Girl Guides of Canada for years. She enjoyed walking with friends and coffee afterwards. She read voraciously. She was also known for her sewing—from kids’ clothing to adult dresses and skirts to producing and distributing thousands of cloth masks early in the pandemic.

Wendy led a life of purpose—she realized just how much you get back when you give freely of your time and effort. She was committed to eliminating homelessness in Calgary through years of fundraising, project coordination, and quiet organization. Her commitment to community causes was unparalleled—she made the world a better place for countless others.

She would want us to keep being kind to each other, build a stronger community, and enjoy every single day.

The love Wendy left behind for so many of us is her legacy.
