Obituary of Brian John Gibb

September 5, 1949 – Invercargill, New Zealand

September 14, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Brian John Gibb, of Calgary, AB, on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at the age of 74 years.

Brian demonstrated grit and determination, qualities that remained throughout his life. Brian met Susan, his true love and devoted wife, in Invercargill, New Zealand in 1975.  They were married in Calgary, AB, on September 6, 1975.

Brian worked tirelessly for the Federal Government as a meat inspector for 37 years.  He was a proud Canadian and a born New Zealander. Brian was also a very loving and devoted father.  He enjoyed hunting, camping, simple dinners, and card games.  He had a passion for New Zealand rugby and always continued to watch the early morning matches.  Brian also kept himself up to date on current events happening in both Canada and in New Zealand.

Besides his loving wife Susan, Brian is survived by his son Ross, daughter Christine (Shanon), grandson Albie, granddaughter August, and brother-in-law Steve Castle.  Brian is also survived by his family in New Zealand; his brother-in- law Jim McGearty, his three nephews and one niece.

Brian was predeceased by his father Jack and mother Fay, his sister Anne, brother Neil, his sister-in-law Jeanette, father-in-law Barry and mother-in-law Barbara.

Brian will be missed by all that knew him, especially all of his friends and family he kept in touch with in New Zealand.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Brian’s family here.

Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Gibb’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
