Frances Amos

Obituary of Frances Anne Amos

October 30, 1938 - Ottawa, Ontario

September 17, 2023 - Airdrie, Alberta

Frances (Fran) Amos (nee Huzey), beloved wife of John Renwick Amos, of Airdrie, AB passed away on Sunday, September 17th, 2023, at the age of 84. They married in Dauphin, MB on October 5, 1957 - just shy of celebrating 66 years together! Their first date was attending the wedding of a co-worker in Dauphin, Manitoba. On the way home Fran helped John change a flat tire in the dark, in the middle of nowhere, in her bridesmaid dress. They spent a life together navigating several small towns of Manitoba and then settled in Winnipeg for 18 years. In 2000, they moved to Alberta to be closer to their children and grandchildren.  After losing their residence and most belongings in the 2013 High River flood, they moved to 'higher' ground in Airdrie.

Fran was a spectacular wife, mother and homemaker who enjoyed decorating their homes, knitting, baking, gardening, and, most of all, raising their children and spending time with their grandchildren.  She was a kind and loving person whose generosity, forgiveness, sharing, and determination was reflected in the strong support she provided her family and community.  She was active in Kinettes and was a 'Sports Mom' extraordinaire (sometimes as the coach)!  Throughout the years she prepared countless 'baking' care packages and supported numerous sports weekends.  With strong roots in her Ukrainian heritage, she hosted family gatherings and created the family traditions, which are ingrained in her children and grandchildren forever.  She had a strong commitment to her family history, as evidenced by the many hours and years spent researching and producing her family tree.

She loved the family dogs and was an avid animal lover; dogs, cats, bunnies, squirrels, and birds - even those crows and magpies! She always had peanuts, raisins and treats on their front step for the neighborhood critters.

Besides her loving husband, Fran is survived by their two sons Kyle Renwick Amos (Karen) of Airdrie, AB, Kevin Peter Amos (Brenda) of Salmon Arm, BC; their daughter Karolee Anne Bahr (Peter) of Calgary, AB; their two grandchildren Mitchell Renwick Amos (Hope) and Michael Cooper Amos, both of Airdrie, AB; and her many dear cousins in Manitoba. Fran was predeceased by her grandparents, mother Anne Huzey, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and her many dogs.

Thank you to the Bethany Airdrie care team for providing Fran with a caring and loving home for the last few years.

Fran will be dearly missed and most remembered for her beautiful smile, her loving and caring nature, her love of her husband, family, friends, dogs, and all animals - and of course her irresistible butter tarts!
