Obituary of Katherine DeVere Perkins (nee Pascal)

August 25, 1930 - Lethbridge, Alberta

September 17, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Our beloved mother, Katherine (Kay) Perkins (nee Pascal) of Calgary, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023, at the age of 93 years.

Kay was born in Lethbridge, Alberta on August 25, 1930. She was the third daughter of Peter and DeVere Pascal. She graduated from Lethbridge high school and moved to Calgary with her parents. When in Calgary, she went to work in a dentist’s office.

She then met James (Jim) Perkins and they were later married in April 1952. Kay enjoyed being a mother and a housewife until James’ passing in 1963. She then went to work for Canadian Western Natural Gas Company (ATCO Gas) until her retirement in 1992 after 29 years. She enjoyed a variety of activities after her retirement including volunteering at Confederation Park Seniors Centre and with CWL at Corpus Christi Church, and even enjoyed doing some traveling. Kay also enjoyed watching sports of all kinds. She probably picked this up from watching her husband and three boys and grandchildren play sporting events all the time. Kay was also well known for her shortbread cookies that she made every Christmas and gave out to those she knew and loved.

Katherine is survived by her sister Diane (Rich) Hirsekorn, sons Mike (Darlene), Donald (Lynn Arden), and Gord (Deb). She is also survived by three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband James (Jim) Perkins, her sisters, Cecilia “Cec” (Merv) Graham, Nadean (Martin) Meyer; her brother Peter (Marion) Pascal, and her granddaughter Lynn Perkins D'Onofrio.

A Prayer Services will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 404 Northmount Place N.W., (corner of 4th Street & Northmount Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.
