Obituary of Harold "Harry" Ryan

Harold Michael Ryan (Harry) passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 17, 2023, in Calgary at the age of 82 years.

Harold was born on December 14, 1940, in St. John’s, Newfoundland to James and Elizabeth. He moved to Montreal as a young man and loved his time there. He met Rita in Montreal, and they started their family in 1967. All three of their children were born in Montreal. Over the years, the family enjoyed many fun road trips to see family in the Gaspe region, St. John’s Newfoundland, and Prince Edward Island. In the future, he also visited Maine, California, Nevada, Hawaii and England. Harold and his family traveled twice by passenger train to Calgary where he later made his home.

Harold enjoyed his long career with Canadian Pacific Railway in Montreal and Toronto where he retired from the railway. He then moved to Calgary where he enjoyed working and meeting new people at Thrifty Car Rentals. He loved spending time with his family and playing golf. He was a joy to golf with because of his easygoing nature. Harold was loved and respected by many people. He was a good listener and gave wise advice. He was known by everyone for his loyalty, his amazing wit, and a great sense of humor. Memories of him will live on.

Harold is survived by his wife Rita; children, Cynthia (Don), Lee (Holly), and Shawn (Mandy); and his three grandchildren, Damian, Evan, and Carter. Also, his siblings Betty, Ann, Jack, and Linda and numerous other relatives. He is preceded in death by his father James, his mother Elizabeth, and his siblings Jim, Ron, Patricia and Madeline.
