Obituary of Donna Wilnyne Laverty

November 28, 1935 – Kindersley, Saskatchewan

September 19, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

Donna Laverty (nee Moffat) was born in Kindersley, SK. She was raised on a farm which may explain why the beauty of the prairies had such a pull on her. She graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a degree in English. While at university, Donna showed talent in sound effects for the drama program. She was also on the figure skating team which clinched first place in Western Canada. Donna won swimming and diving competitions as well.

Donna married Charles E. (Ted) Laverty in 1957. They had four children in less than four years. Donna proved to be a wonderful mother, amma and great-amma. Donna enjoyed sketching, painting, writing, word puzzles, knitting, sewing, baking the best brownies, and most of all, spending time with her family. Donna is best known for her kindness, tolerance, patience, and outrageous sense of humor.

Donna is survived by her children, Diane Laverty, Vicky Laverty-Ludwig (husband Ken), Jim Laverty (wife Terry Lynn), and Janice Wurm (husband David); her grandchildren, Melany Wurm, Adam Wurm, Christine Wurm (Ryan), Terry Lyn Wurm (Chris), Jay Kuystermans, Shawn Valley, Ryan Valley, Briana Laverty, Jayme Laverty, Stephany Laverty (Alex), Connor Short, Mitchell Ludwig (Ana), and Kirsten Ludwig (Edmund); and her great-grandchildren, Dianna Kuystermans, Declan Haugen, Anna Wurm, and Jack Ludwig. Donna is also survived by her sister-in-law Martha Laverty.

Donna was predeceased by her husband Ted Laverty, her parents, Bill and Nina Moffat; her brother Lynn Moffat, and her sister Deveene Lueke.

The family wishes to thank the staff at AgeCare McKenzie Towne Continuing Care Centre for the wonderful and loving care given to Donna. The family would also like to thank Unit 61 and Dr. Chacko at Foothills Medical Centre for their compassionate care in Donna’s final days.
