Marilyn Gloeckler

Obituary of Marilyn Edith Gloeckler

March 17, 1948 - September 24, 2023

After a beloved and full life, Marilyn Edith Gloeckler, also lovingly know as Meg, passed away at the age of 75 on Sunday, September 24, 2023.

Marilyn was born in Ottawa on March 17, 1948 to Joyce and David Shepherd, and was the proud big sister to her three younger siblings. She is survived by her three children, Paul, Susan and Mark; her ex-husband and friend, Keith; her three siblings, Judy (Scott), Peter (Jackie) and Gord (Lenore); and her nine nieces, nephews and their families.

She grew up as a military brat and had great adventures with her family moving between some of her favourite places such as Germany, Saint Margarets NB, and Gander NFLD. She graduated high school in Moose Jaw 1966 and went on to continue her studies at Teachers College in Regina, graduating in 1970. From there, she began teaching shortly after in Swift Current where she met Keith and got married in 1972. In 1974, they moved to Regina where she worked for the government and loved raising their three children, and eventually settled in Calgary (1985) which became home sweet home. Up until retirement, she continued to work at several places such as Sears (Catalog), The Calgary Board of Education (Administrative Assistant) and John Ware Jr High (School Aid) to name a few.

Marilyn had a deep and unwavering Christian faith and was passionate about serving the Lord, being a prayer warrior, volunteer, and donating to both charities and those in need around her. Her deepest wish was for people to know the unconditional love of the Lord that she felt and endeavoured to love everyone in the same way. She had attended her current church, Southwood United, since 2007. She really loved lively music and couldn’t sit still during a good tune, so she’s certainly singing and dancing in Heaven.

She loved visiting and celebrating with her friends and family, everyone was always welcome, never failing to take snapshots of both the big and small moments that make up life (inherited from her dad), cheering her son’s on in hockey, movie day blitz’s with her daughter, Christmas EVERYTHING, gift giving (staples, ribbon, tape and all… on one single gift bag which was like breaking into Fort Knox LOL).

She will be best remembered for her amazing smile, endless love, knack for remembering numbers and birthdays, sharing stories, and a sense of humour that got you laughing so hard together you couldn’t breath!

A Celebration of Life for Marilyn will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday October 20, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. Please Join the family in the reception room after the service.

Marilyn loved light and vibrant colors, seeing the beauty in God’s creation, and so she had requested that everyone joining her Celebration of Life service to come wearing some light, bright and summery colours. So don’t be afraid to throw on your favourite flashy socks, accessories, and yes, Hawaiian shirts too!

We also ask guests to try and refrain from wearing perfume, colognes and scented lotions due to allergies within the family. This would be greatly appreciated!

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Marilyn’s family here.
