Obituary of Maria Mahura

Maria Mahura beloved wife of the late Donald Mathew Mahura of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at the age of 90 years.
Maria was born in Wostok, AB, on August 10, 1933. She grew up in Central Alberta, always proud of her Ukrainian heritage. She was a stay-at-home mother to five, a proud grandmother, a loving sister, and friend to many. Maria was a homemaker, devoted to her family. She was a proud, and loyal wife always supporting Don in his career.
The Mahuras moved within Alberta periodically as Don’s position advanced within Chevron. Maria worked to always make their house a home. The job eventually took the family to the Middle East and Africa, where Maria enjoyed a beautiful life. Maria was a grand entertainer, often hosting elaborate parties and events. Cooking and gardening also brought much enjoyment.
Maria met Don in March of 1958, and were married three months later.
Maria is survived by her children Annamarie Mahura (Philip Sargent), of Whitby, ON, Craig (Dianne) Mahura, of Calgary, AB, Marilyn (Robert) Belsher of Red Deer, AB, Glen Mahura (Jackie Kirk) of Calgary, AB, Gary (Joanne) Mahura of West Kelowna, BC; Also survived by her thirteen grandchildren, Chad, Brett, Ryan, Brad, Amber, Luke, Kimberly, Spencer, Joshua, Blake, Nycailah, Kate, and Keltie, and one great-grandchild Maddy.
Maria is also survived by her sister, Evelyn Suik of Edmonton, AB, and her brother Donnie Kozak of Chilliwack, BC; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Maria was predeceased by her husband Donald Mahura, parents, William and Pauline Kozak; brothers Bill Kozak, and John Kozak; and sisters, Irene Banack, Rosie Geddes.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McInnis & Holloway (Heritage, 1708 – 16th Avenue NW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church (541 Silvergrove Drive, NW, Calgary, AB), on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 11:00 am MST with reception to follow at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB).
