Obituary of John Dyck

July 12, 1923 – September 25, 2023

 

John Dyck, born July 12, 1923, passed away Monday, September 25, 2023, at the age of 100 years.

 

He was born on a train in Russia, near the Russian-Latvian border. The youngest of five children, he grew up in southern Manitoba and was educated in a two-room country school. Upon leaving school, he worked various jobs in Winnipeg, where he met his future wife, Lorette. They moved to Regina, and both worked there until he was transferred to Calgary in 1950, where they were married. He worked in the retail lumber trade until his retirement.

 

He leaves behind two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianna and Roger Michie, Tina and Rick Smith; and his son, Trevor Dyck. He had ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Lorette Dyck, his granddaughter Jenise Michie, his father and mother, Frank and Maria Dyck, his sisters Mary and Helena, and his brothers Frank and Peter.

 

A Memorial Service will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6) on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
