Obituary of Anthony Paul Rutten
March 30, 1966 - North Battleford, Saskatchewan
September 23, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tony (Anthony) Rutten, who left us on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the age of 57 years.
Tony was a man of many passions, but his love for fishing, rafting, and outdoor survival training truly defined him. He was a caregiver and protector for his mom. Ensuring he drove her where she needed to go, he took the time to read to her and helped her around her home. Tony ensured his mom was taken care of, and this is the Tony that many loved.
Tony was born in North Battleford, SK, and raised in Calgary, AB. Tony spent most of his life in this vibrant city, where he attended school and formed lasting friendships. He was a man of many talents, always willing to work with his hands. Throughout his life, he dedicated his skills to various trades. This included carpentry, building pipelines, maintenance, drafting (computer-aided), restaurant management, and of course, his outdoor survival training.
Tony is survived by his loving mother, Merope (Lenore) Gervais of Calgary, AB, and his father Bob Rutten, of Three Hills, AB. He is also survived by his younger brother Carl Donald Rutten, of Regina, SK, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and cherished friends.
Tony was the eldest of his cousins and was looked up to by many of them throughout his life. Tony’s wonderful sense of humor and his tenacious interest in current events endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a man of deep compassion and a kind spirit. He was always ready to offer a hand or a friendly smile. In these difficult times, we remember Tony with love and gratitude for the time we had with him. Condolences, cherished memories, and photographs may be shared and viewed with Tony’s family here.
As we say our goodbyes, let us also remember Tony with love and appreciation for the joy he brought into our lives. May he find eternal peace and many blessings in the realm beyond. Rest in peace, Tony (Anthony) Rutten. You will be forever missed and never forgotten.
