Obituary of Cathryn Ann Spencer

December 17, 1971 - September 28, 2023

Cathryn Ann Spencer (née Senior), loving mother, daughter, partner, sister and friend passed away in Calgary on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at the age of 51 years.

Cathyrn was born in Sarnia, Ontario, grew up in Saskatoon, and later resided in Red Deer, Hanna and Calgary with her family. She graduated from Walter Murray High School in Saskatoon in 1989 and attended the University of Saskatchewan.

Cathryn was a loving, doting mother and partner for whom family was the centre of her world. She was a generous soul with an adventurous, inquisitive spirit and a strong passion for nature and animals, with a particular fondness for dogs and horses, including her beloved dogs Ebony and Monty. Always full of compliments and compassion for those around her, she made others feel loved, special and capable. She was the effortlessly beautiful, cool, caring, and graceful sister that some friends had never had. Friends knew her as a kind-hearted, thoughtful woman who never forgot birthdays. With a lively sense of humour, perceptive nature, and penchant for directness, at her best Cathryn was a bright light with a brave and captivating spirit. She faced her life’s struggles with courage and strength and accompanied many others through difficult times.

Cathryn is lovingly remembered by her family and friends and survived by her two sons, Caiden and Cohen; parents Michael and Donna Senior; former husband Corey Spencer; her partner of three years Daniel Jean; brother Jeffrey Senior and sister-in-law Victoria Hopkins; aunt Brenda Reynolds and uncle Bryan Reynolds; aunt Maureen Senior; cousins, David and Daniel Reynolds, and Cayley and Josh Rauw; and her nieces, Amara and Solyana Senior Hopkins.

Cathryn was predeceased by her grandparents, Victor and Barbara Senior, Aina Elash and Vern Chingren; her step-grandfather Peter Elash; and by her uncles Peter Bradley Elash and Murray Rauw.
