Obituary of Lester Harvey Ollenberg

Lester Harvey Ollenberg of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the age of 87 years.

Les was born in Leduc, Alberta, on May 27, 1936. He married Marilyn Bosch on November 25, 1961, and they moved nine times with two small toddlers before settling in Calgary, AB, and adding two more children to the mix.

Les loved his artwork, his garden, and his pugs. Les was a commercial artist, so his paintings were of buildings and architecture. His prized painting, Chateau Lake Louise, is proudly displayed in his son Kraig’s home. Kirk has the Lougheed Mansion painting, La Lane has the Historic Ollenberg Homestead painting, and Tamara has the only palette knife painting Dad made, as his preferred medium was watercolour. It’s of the Center Street Bridge and he gave it to Marilyn for their first wedding anniversary.

Les was predeceased by his wife Marilyn. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Tamara Ollenberg and Bill Bloss; daughter and son-in-law, La Lane Ollenberg and Brian Sperling; son and daughter-in-law Kirk and Angela Ollenberg; son and daughter-in-law, Kraig and Erin Ollenberg; his grandchildren, Jason, Candis, Jason, Vanessa, Royal, Skylar, Madi, Miranda, Megan, Taylor, and Avia; and his great-grandchildren, Chase, Callie, and Kaylee.

Les is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, CarolAnn (nee Bosch) and Jeff Berkley, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Les was predeceased by his mother Emma Gertrude Ollenberg (nee Oldenberg), his father Reinhold Henry Ollenberg, his brother Stanley Ollenberg, and his sister Evelyn Violet Willis (nee Ollenberg).

Memorial Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6) on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Lester’s family here.
