Obituary of Richard John Prowse

July 12, 1956 - Saskatchewan

October 3, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Richard Prowse of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, peacefully in his family's home at the age of 67 years.

Richard was born in Saskatchewan, “Rick” was a Sixty Scoop Survivor. He never knew his biological parents. Rick was adopted at a young age where he was raised in Winnipeg, MB. In his older years, he moved to beautiful Kelowna, BC where he spent many years, before moving to Calgary, AB.

Rick met his ex-common law partner Shyanne Parsons. Years later Richard and Shyanne had a daughter named Patience. Patience was the center of Rick's life; everything he did was for her. Rick loved Patience to the moon and back. Everywhere he went he had a story to tell someone about his daughter. Shyanne had two other children that Rick loved just as much as his own. Rick had been having health problems for some time, but he was a man who never failed to love his children and do whatever he needed to do to support not only his children but our family as well.

Shyanne had introduced him to the Parsons family. Rick had made incredible bonds and memories with our family. Rick has been with our Parsons family for over 15 years.

Rick's passion was with his family, from having big family dinners to long walks by the river. Anything Rick could do to bring his family all together, nothing would prevent him from doing so. Rick enjoyed camping, loved antique cars, and car shows. He loved to watch his favourite hockey team, the Calgary Flames. He enjoyed watching sports, from hockey to football. He had a favourite place for our family dinners where we would go to the Blackfoot Truck Stop, and he never failed to have clam chowder and his most favourite lemon meringue pie. Ricks loved to tell a great story, he had a story for every story, and no one could ever tell a better one than Rick.

Rick was a jack of all trades and a master of none, Rick’s dedication, enthusiasm, and insight were always shown in his work. Through work, Rick had met a man that he soon would call a brother, Brian Mitton. Brain and Rick had a close bond with a great friendship.

Rick will be most remembered for his love for his family. We will forever remember the desire and drive that he had when it came to Rick providing for his daughter and stepkids but also for our family. We will be forever thankful that Rick called us family. He will be greatly missed and was loved by many.

Rick is survived by his one daughter Patience Parsons-Prowse, stepson James, and stepdaughter Ava Parsons, who reside in Calgary AB. Richard is also survived by his ex-common law partner Shyanne Parsons, mother-in-law Rose Parsons, sisters-in-law, Starr (Jonas) Parsons and Crystal Parsons; brothers-in-law, Josh Parsons, Randy Parsons, Junior (Jordana) Parsons, and Shea (Brittany) Parsons; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Rick had a small circle of friends and family that he held dear to his heart. He had a great fellowship with his in-laws, Joan Big Plume and Joe Big Plume.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, one brother, his grandma-in-law Gail Parsons, and her husband Errol Dyler.

We apologize for anyone we missed.

Richard John Prowse was loved and will be missed.
