July 24, 1943 – Calgary, Alberta
October 2, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
Brian Henderson passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023, at the age of 80 years. He was born July 24, 1943, in Calgary, AB, to Frederick and Ethel Henderson. Brian had four children, Janice (Todd Barton) Henderson, Paul Henderson, Craig Henderson and Christopher Henderson, with his first wife Terry Henderson. He met his wife Dianne, at Calgary Transit, and they were married in 1984. Brian and Dianne have eight grandchildren, Shelley (Jeet), Nicole (Michael), Justin, Thomas, Jesse, Summer, Jessica, William, and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother George (2022) and sister Mina (2017).
Brian was a runner. He broke many track records in school, that lasted for years. He started his career as a sheet metal worker, then changed profession to Calgary Transit, as a bus driver in 1969. He drove bus mostly, but he had a time as a training officer. He also worked part time for Wardair, late 70’s/early 80’s. He has fought many illnesses throughout his life, so retired early at end of 1999. He then worked for Native Services (Four Directions Foster Parent Association) for a couple of years, driving a student to school and home. Brian and Dianne loved to travel, and have travelled much of the world, but they had many repeat trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Puerto Vallarta, and Osoyoos every June for 40 years. He loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Brian loved sports, whether playing or watching. He played baseball, eventually slow pitch, from school, right through to his hip replacement in 2010. He also loved curling, playing at times in three leagues making five games per week, not including his more professional team bon-spieling numerous weekends. He has won many trophies and prizes over the years, again stopping in 2010. He tried his hand at golf, but that only lasted a few years. Brian was also an Elvis music fan.
