Obituary of Kim Gobeil

February 11, 1978 – Humboldt, Saskatchewan

October 5, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

Kim Gobeil (nee Munkler), mother of Myley and Kohen Gobeil, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at the age of 45 years. With her fiercely loving yet quiet demeanor, Kim left a lasting mark on those who were closest to her. Including her husband of ten years, Gaetan Gobeil. Her parents, Frank and Ramona Munkler residing in Edson, Alberta. Her parents-in-law, Guy and Irene Gobeil residing in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

Kim grew up on a farm near Englefeld, Saskatchewan. She knew the value of hard work and never shied away from it. The eldest of five, with four younger brothers, had her honing her skills as a mom at an early age. She did not love the farm life, but deeply treasured her honest, humble Saskatchewan family roots.

She moved to Alberta in 1998, following her family to Edson. This is where she got introduced to accounting and decided to pursue this passion. She got her diploma in Edmonton and began a career in this profession. Her love of order and structure made accounting a natural fit, and she truly enjoyed this work.  

Edmonton is where Kim met her husband. From the outset they were aligned on values. They moved to Calgary in 2006, establishing their careers and setting up tangible roots. Halloween in 2008 forever changed their lives as they welcomed Myley into the world. Kim was a natural mother from day one, so calm, so soothing, she loved her little pumpkin so much. The community of Lake Bonavista became an important part of their identities in 2011 as they moved there and had Kohen (Peanut). Kim loved running around after the kids and was the ultimate rock and support to her family. In Bonavista is where Kim found profound happiness and established many great friendships. Through twenty years of travel, camping and family gatherings countless great memories were made. 

Kim’s entire being revolved around her family. Myley and Kohen were her everything. She was a big sports fan, watched lots of Blue Jays, Oilers and Riders. Although, if you would ask her, she would prefer watching her kids at a simple practice than the World Series final. Rarely did she miss a kids game, and always cheered very loudly. 

Success to Kim looked like a nice yard; with a meticulous lawn and beautiful flowers. A home that was always neat and tidy, yet warm, with cozy blankets everywhere. At least six cupboards packed full of every possible variety of snack – featuring a minimum of ten varieties of chips, chocolate, candy. The ability to put together a world-class "grazing” board without ever having to venture out of your house.  

Over the last couple years, as she had to slow down a bit, Kim came to appreciate a comfortable chair, a warm blanket, a tasty cup of coffee, reading her book and cuddling her puppy (with snacks within reach of course). She didn’t want to slow down though and accomplished a lot of important memory-making goals, which included ambitious trips to DisneyWorld and the East Coast in 2023.

Her life ended far too early. She insisted that all who read this take action immediately. Her advice: Go hug your children, hold them an awkwardly long amount of time (even if they struggle), and make sure you tell them you love them more than anything in the world.

Don’t be mistaken, cancer did not beat Kim. Kim beat cancer. With her unyielding determination to love her people and live the last couple years on her terms.

Kim is survived by her four brothers and four sisters-in-law, Jeremy Munkler (Amanda), Morgan Munkler (Amanda), Scott Munkler (Jessa), Cory Munkler (Lindsay) all residing in Northern Alberta. She is also survived by her sister-in-laws Janelle Meyers (late Wyett), Ashley Beaulieu (Matt) and brother-in-law Jesse Gobeil; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of your choice with preference to organizations that support children.

A private family service will be held on October 21st, 2023. 

The family will be planning a Celebration of Life, of which details will be forthcoming.
