Obituary of Giulia Tumato

Giulia Tumato (nee Danzico) passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on October 7, 2023, at the age of 85 years.

Giulia was survived by her daughter, Giovanna (Gennaro); grandchildren, Saverio (Irene), Sophia (Aleksandar), Teresa (Sebastian), Pasquale, Leigh-Anne, Julia (Ryan), and Elizabeth (Fraser); brothers and sisters-in-law, Giovanni Esposito, Aniello and Filomena DeBlasio, Pietro Tumato, Jim and Cristina Tumato, Frank and Sandhya Tumato; numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Saverio, her two sons, Pasquale and Angelo; and her brother, Antonio Danzico. She was also predeceased by her brother and sisters-in-law, Orsola Esposito, Giuseppina and Raffaele Buonincontri, and Elisabetta Tumato.

Giulia was born in San Vitaliano, Napoli, Italia. She lost her father, Emilio, at the age of 6, and then immigrated to Canada with her mother, Concetta, at the age of 14. She married Saverio Tumato at the age of 18 in Cochrane, and shortly after moved to Calgary. Giulia and Saverio built a beautiful family, operated a successful Italian grocery store in Bridgeland for many years, and then retired in Westbank, British Columbia. Giulia’s favorite things were cooking, camping, fishing, gardening, playing cards, bocce, and of course, spending time with family and friends. She was the most loving, kind, genuine, and selfless person you’d ever meet. Everyone was always taken care of first. Giulia touched the lives of so many, and no words can describe how much she will be missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6) on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Ascension Catholic Parish Church (1100 Berkshire Blvd NW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Queens Park Cemetery Mausoleum. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Giulia’s family here.
