Obituary of Jeanie Robertson Bromley

March 31, 1934 – Paisley, Scotland

October 7, 2023– Calgary, Alberta

Jeanie “Sheena” Bromley (nee Pollin), of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at the age of 89 years.

Jeanie was born in Paisley, Scotland on March 31, 1934.

Jeanie attended Camphill School in Scotland where she graduated at age 15 and went on to study at Rowanbank Commercial College. She then later pursued her career with the British Railways.

Her most memorable vacation was one with her family to Longtown in 1952, where Jeanie met a young, redheaded sergeant called John (Jack) Bromley, who later proposed to her in October of 1954.

Jeanie accomplished much through her life. She was particularly proud of her Scottish heritage and her family, later moving the family to Canada in August of 1967.

Jeanie and her family joined Faith Calgary Church in April 1971 where she found great comfort, faith, and a greater sense of family. She was involved in various aspects of church life from Sunday School, choir, pastoral care, serving on council, coordinating weddings and ELW.

Jeanie kept herself busy with many hobbies, including her church duties, reading, and mastering the crossword in the International Express. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family, as well as singing, dancing, and reading.

She will be most remembered for her love and dedication to her family, her friends, and her faith.

"To my children:

You can shed tears that I am gone

or you can smile that I have lived

You can close your eyes and pray

That I'll come back, or you can open your eyes

And see that I have left

Your hearts can be empty because you can't see me

Or you can be full of the love we shared

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday

Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday

You can remember me and only that I am gone

Or you can cherish my memory and let it live on

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back

Or you can do what I'd want, smile, open your eyes, love and go on."

Sheena is survived by her five children and their spouses, David and Karen Bromley of Sidney, BC,  Paul Bromley and Maggie Battyanyi of Calgary, AB, Jacqueline and Wayne Pyykonen, of Calgary, AB; Alan Bromley of Calgary, AB, Alison and Darren Brulotte, of Carbon, AB as well as her seven grandchildren, Lindsey Bromley, Jennifer Bromley Ferguson, Kent Bromley, Chelsea Pyykonen, Courtney Pyykonen Porter, Kieran Bromley, Jackson Corbett, Emma Bromley, her eight great-grandchildren, Ethan Gore, Cheyenne Bromley, Brooklynn Bromley, Leiland Bromley, Brody Bromley, Layla Bromley, Micah Bromley; and her great-great-grandson, Noah Bromley.
