Obituary of VAN GASTEL

February 15, 1923 – Denzil, Saskatchewan July 10, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta So I’ll sing Hallelujah, you were an angel in the shape of my mom… It is with heavy hearts and gratitude to so many that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother Lorraine, just moments before dawn on the 10th of July, 2018. Born in Denzil, Saskatchewan on February 15, 1923, she lived with passion and purpose for 95 wonderful years. The mother of five children, 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, the matriarch of our family provided us all with unconditional love. This wise, sassy and beautiful woman excelled at so many things, but her greatest accomplishment was her family. Honouring her memory are her children Arnold and Linda Van Gastel, Bill and Jenneke Van Gastel, Cathy and Michael Stang, Christine and Ric McIver and Marty Van Gastel. Her special friend Melody Favero will also miss her dearly. Lorraine will live on in her grandchildren, Sharon Boucher, Kyle Stamm, Matt Van Gastel, Jill Fleming, Adam Van Gastel, Carla Van Gastel, Brad Wandzura, Laurel Wandzura, Alex Stang, Paige Stang, Tiar Neustaeter and Cole McIver and her great-grandchildren, Emily, Lily, Jacob, Hannah, Georgia, Felix, Elaina, Arelie, Parker, Cooper, Rylen, Quinn and Zander. She was predeceased by her grandson Derek Wandzura in 1991 and her husband of 44 years, Christian Van Gastel in 1993. Spread your wings and I know, that when God took you back, He said, “Hallelujah, you’re home.” Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church ) on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church () on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. Reception to follow at the church.
