Obituary of Giovanni Michelin

August 25, 1931 – Vittorio Veneto, Italy

October 10, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

Giovanni Michelin, beloved husband of Stella (nee Dal Cin), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at the age of 92 years.

Giovanni was born in Vittorio Veneto, Italy on August 25, 1931. He immigrated to Canada in 1954 and married the love of his life, Stella, in 1957. He absolutely thrived and enjoyed being in the company of his family, providing valuable life advice at just the right moments, and loving them all with great affection.  He enjoyed the music of Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash, and would never miss a Lawrence Welk rerun, even during his deteriorating health. Many will remember Giovanni for his outstanding and unique craftsmanship with wood, and he leaves his personal touch in many luxury homes throughout Calgary.

Giovanni is survived by his loving wife Stella, daughter Dolores, granddaughters, Meagan and Alyssa, great-grandson Jax; son John and wife Holli, granddaughters, Erika and Siena, all of Calgary.

Giovanni was predeceased by his parents and four siblings.

The family would like to thank the wonderful health care professionals on Unit 39 at the PLC, and Dr. Michael Wong, his oncologist. A very special thank you goes towards the compassionate and amazing nurses and health care staff at the Rosedale Hospice, who made Giovanni’s final days very special.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Parish (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Interment Service to follow at Queens Park Cemetery - Mausoleum. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Giovanni’s family here.
