Obituary of John Nicholson McCallum

John McCallum of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the age of 79 years.

John was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on November 17, 1943, emigrated from Scotland to Canada in 1965, and moved to Calgary, AB, in 1986.

John graduated from David Dale College, Burmulloch College, Scotland, in Advanced City Guilds in Boilermaker and Fabrication of Steel.
 

John married Margaret McCallum (nee Pollock) in 1965, before leaving Scotland and enjoyed 58 years together.

John was a lifetime learner, and mentor and he was proud to be a part of these many teams. His career in the fields of fabrication, purchasing, quality assurance and quality control included
extensive assignments in North America, Europe, Japan, Taiwan, and Korea. He enjoyed the opportunity to work as senior management with major engineering and construction companies such as PCL-Braun-Simons Ltd., Pullman Kellogg Ltd, Badger Engineering Inc, PCL Aker Stord-Steen-Becker, and Asia Badger Inc. John worked alongside many of the world leading fabricators like JSW, Sumitomo, ATB, FBM, Hitachi and IMB. A couple of the Canadian projects that John held dear in his career were the Blue Water International Bridge in Sarnia–Point Edward, Ontario, and the Hibernia Offshore Project, Newfoundland.

He was a member of the Kensington Legion while living in Calgary, AB.

John enjoyed woodworking in spare time, but his three loves were his wife Margaret, career and travelling. He explored most of the world, meeting new people and experiencing new foods in local
cultures.
 

John will be remembered for his ethics, hard work, and his big smile in times of stress and celebration.

John is survived by his loving wife Margaret.
